Drug Test Training - Vocational Education and Training (VET)

Course in Drug and Alcohol Screening (10414NAT) – an industry based course designed to provide the required skills and knowledge to perform Drug and Alcohol Testing in the workplace. This training will enable participants to conduct onsite drug and alcohol screening as per Australian Standards (AS3547-1997, AS4760-2006, and AS/NZS4308:2008).

As a NATA accredited ISO 15189 facility, Drug Test Australia (DTA) understands the importance of ensuring workplaces have Collection Staff/Technicians who are trained to conduct testing to the highest standard. DTA trainers have extensive current experience in conducting testing across a variety of industry settings plus a wealth of knowledge on workplace drug and alcohol testing.

Course Content:

  • Understanding of organisational guidelines for drug and alcohol testing
  • Planning for drug and alcohol testing
  • Undertake random testing
  • Undertake reasonable cause testing
  • Undertake post-incident testing
  • Safe custody of specimens requiring further testing
  • Documenting and record keeping of testing and testing outcomes

Course Delivery: Classroom training and assessment

Workplace Drug and Alcohol Awareness Education

Drug and Alcohol Awareness Education is designed for workplaces implementing a new drug and alcohol policy or wanting employees to gain a greater understanding of the potential impacts of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Course Content:

  • Effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace
  • What is a drug and alcohol policy and how it will impact employees
  • Types of workplace drug and alcohol testing

Supervisor Workplace Impairment Awareness Education

Impairment Awareness Education is designed to assist workplace supervisors identify possible signs and symptoms of employees who may be potentially impaired due to drugs and/or alcohol. A key focus of the course is to assist supervisors effectively and safely manage employees under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.

Course Content:

 Impacts of drugs and alcohol in the workplace

  • Signs and Symptoms of an individual impacted by Drugs and/or Alcohol
  • Other Potential Contributing Factors to Impairment (fatigue, illness or disability)
  • Minimize Harm or Aggression when an Individual is Impaired by Drugs and/or Alcohol
